Best things to do in Seville

In the summer of 2019, I made a 3-day trip to Seville with my brother.

This beautiful city is located in the southern part of Spain where the temperature can often reach above 40°C in summer. Nevertheless, this city deserves a good place on my list of favorite cities. Let me explain to you why.

On 25-07-2019 we departed from Eindhoven Airport (the Netherlands) by plane to Seville. About 3 hours later we arrived and when we got off the plane we were immediately welcomed by a clear blue sky and summer temperatures. A shuttle bus took us in about 20 minutes to the central bus station. Just crossing the bridge and we arrived at our hotel.

The hotel we booked for this trip was 5-star Hotel Eurostars Torre Sevilla, which is located in the tower of the same name, Torre Sevilla. This tower is no less than 178 meters high and has 40 floors. From the 27th floor you can book hotel rooms that offer a magnificent view of the city or Aljarafe. On the top floor of the hotel you can find a restaurant/bar with a spectacular panoramic view of the city.

After checking in we went for a walk through the old city center. The nice thing about this city is that they have covered all the streets in the center with white cloths, so you can actually walk in the shade constantly. In the summer with temperatures above 40 degrees, this certainly provides the necessary cooling.

LUNCH TIP: In the center of Seville you can find several food shops called ‘Patio San Eloy’. Here they sell various delicious sandwiches and are served in Spanish style. The sandwiches are super cheap and the people who work there are very friendly (also for tourists).

In the evening, of course, the day ended in Spanish style with tapas!

During our trip we also bought tickets for the hop-on-hop-off bus for 2 days. We used this tour bus for the first time on the 2nd day. With this we let ourselves be dropped off at Plaza de España. This semicircular square and building is really a must see when you are going on a trip to Seville. Around the square, with a beautiful fountain in the middle, there is also water to be found on which small canoes can be sailed.

This square is also located directly at the Maria Luisa Park. This park is full of fountains and works of art and offers coolness in the summer by the tall trees.

In the evening we visited the Metropol Parasol, also called Las Setas. This is the largest wooden construction in the world and is no less than 26 meters high. On top of this imposing structure, a walking route has been created for visitors. From here you can admire a beautiful 360° view of the city. (Tip: visit this attraction about half an hour before sunset, this way you can experience the sunset from the viewing platform).

Watching the sunset from above was one of the most beautiful things I have been able to experience and definitely recommended when you visit Seville.

Tickets for the Metropol Parasol are available at the ticket office/entrance and cost only €5,- There can sometimes be a long queue because only a certain number of people are allowed to enter the construction at a time.

The next day we drove a large route with the tour bus. This route takes you to different areas of the city and at the same time explanations are given through the earplugs. During the route you will, for example, pass Macarena and Plaza de Toros (bullfighting arena).

In the afternoon we visited the cathedral of Seville with the famous Giralda tower next to it.

Afterwards, the intention was to visit the royal palace (Alcázar Real de Sevilla). However, upon arrival the queue turned out to be much too long and unfortunately we had to delete this part from our schedule. The next time I go to Seville, this will definitely be high on my list to visit.
